PRINCE2 is a process-based approach for project management issued, recommended and continuously developed by the UK Office of Government Commerce (OGC). "PRINCE" stands for "PRojects IN Controlled Environment." The predecessor institution of the OGC, the Central Computer and Communications Agency (CCTA), introduced "PRINCE" as the de facto UK government standard for IT projects in 1989. PRINCE2 was published in 1996 after the program was refined and further developed by various private and public-sector organizations.
A PRINCE2 project begins by adapting concepts and processes to suit a given project. This includes consideration of factors such as scope, risk, cost, duration, quality, importance and location. The powerful project management system can only be used successfully if this tailoring has been carried out optimally.
PRINCE2 is process-centric and designed so that project activities can be modified dynamically. The primary focus of PRINCE2 is to regularly monitor progress in economic terms, ensuring that the profitability of the business case is reviewed at the end of each phase.
"The PRINCE2 certification of our PSO team delivers even more benefit to our customers because it ensures that projects are implemented with an even stronger focus on deliverables. PRINCE2 is a strategic element in the extension of professional project management at fiebig+team," says Sven Weisheit, Director of Consulting & PSO at the Frankfurt-based business communication specialist.
